While she talks he looks a lot like he only understands about hal the words. Because that is about as much as he understands. The living a long time he has no problem with, she isn't the first and he doubts she'll be the last. How exactly she is going to help him he isn't so sure about on the other hand.

"You know I am just human, right? Not a metahuman or anything like that. I don't need to learn to live with something, I need to make sure they can't get into my head again."

"I didn't come here expecting everyone to be an Abnormal like I am," she points out gently. "I came here hoping to do some good, to help. And part of the work that I do involves helping others work through their difficulties." She pauses, swallowing back a bit of her normal pain and longing whenever the topic of her daughter comes up. "Had Ashley survived, I would have spent as much time as necessary helping her work through her feelings regarding what happened to her. Helping her cope and figure out a way to prevent it from happening again. I may be more limited here, but I'm hardly the type to let that stop me from trying."

She gives a light shrug, picking up her glass and sipping from it again. "All I wanted was to make the offer. To let you know you have a friendly ear and a person who will support you and work with you."

It reminds her suddenly of her Old Friend, how the crixorum altered his behavior and his entire mindset. Ashley was telepathically controlled. Helen's Old Friend had been brainwashed and telepathically controlled over the course of months, something Helen fully blamed herself for. She blames herself for a lot of things. What happened to those two important people, and subsequently their deaths, will haunt her for the rest of her life. For now, however, she refrains from mentioning the second example and simply leaves it with Ashley.

"In that case, she was lucky to have had a mother like you. As far as I can tell most people don't care once they are sure that you are no longer a danger." He shrugs and drinks from his bottle.

"You know how to work to prevent it from happening again? Getting mind controlled I mean?"

"A mindset that helps no one," she points out evenly.

"Not offhand, but not knowing the answer has never stopped me before." She offers him a tight-lipped smile, but one with no shortage of warmth or sincerity regardless. "I'll look into it, see what can be done, and let you know what I find. Of course, if you have any suggestions or ideas you'd like to have explored or discussed, I would absolutely be open to that."

"Jean suggested meditation. I don't know about that. Never really seemed my style. But if it keeps Kol and others like him out of my head, I'll do it. I'd be willing to see if it helps with Dr. Orpheus. He has said yes to checking my head regularly for signs of someone else having been in there. "

[lifelines]

She nods thoughtfully at both of those names. Those are people she would trust if she needed to. "I've developed telepathic therapy before, but the person I was working with isn't here. Meditation should also help." He sounds as though he's in good hands, but that won't stop her from working on it from her end, despite her human limitations.

"Still, if you ever do need a more human approach, or simply someone to talk things through with, you know how to find me."

"I don't talk about feelings or shit like that. It's... hard. I don't like to show weakness." And that is more than he's told pretty much anyone ever.

"But I appreciate the sentiment."

"It is difficult," she agrees, "but it's hardly a weakness. Sometimes, expressing your feelings can be quite good for you." This may be something she's trying to learn and work on herself, so she understands fully. Which is also why she isn't pushing. Instead, she drains her glass and finally stands up again.

"Either way, I simply wanted you to know that you aren't the only one on this side of the fence with regard to what happened to you."

Whatever he wants to do about it, she hopes it helps. He knows where to find her and what her stance is should he decide to seek her out. For now, she moves to give him space and time to sort things out for himself, heading over for the real reason she'd come: to find Nikola.
